To celebrate our partnership and the launch of our new commercials with Canadian figure skater Kurt Browning, we will be releasing a series of articles about Kurt Browning and Donald Jackson, their history and who they are. Here, to kick off this series of articles is our feature article on Kurt Browning and his history.
Kurt Browning, the iconic Canadian figure skater is the new spokesperson for HomeEquity Bank and CHIP Reverse Mortgages.
Well before he rose to national fame and landed with HomeEquity Bank, Kurt was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and was raised near Caroline, Alberta. Being on the ice came naturally to him and he enjoyed figure skating but also hockey until he was 16. It was then that he moved to Edmonton and completely switched his focus to figure skating.
Placing 15th in his first year at the World Championships as an amateur competitor at the age of 20, Kurt was an instant hit in the figure skating world. Quickly developing a reputation for footwork and charisma, he won over Canadian and international fans alike.
In 1988, Kurt found his way into the record books – specifically the Guinness Book of World Records – for landing the very first quadruple jump ever in competition. Over the next 5 years, Kurt won 4 Canadian National titles, and 4 world Championships, not to mention a host of other honours and awards.
In 1994, Kurt was named the Canadian flag bearer for the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
Kurt is also very proud to be a father of his two wonderful sons, Gabriel and Dillion, who are featured in their dad’s new commercial for HomeEquity Bank.
Kurt has made many TV appearances including co-hosting and judging Battle of the Blades and competing in Skating with Celebrities. Kurt is also known as a commentator for major events including the World Championships and the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
Kurt was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, and Canada’s Figure Skating Hall of Fame and was given a star on Canada’s walk of Fame.
For Kurt, the accolades didn’t stop outside the ice rink. He has received the Golden Jubilee Medal, the Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Order of Canada.
While Kurt still remains very active in the skating community, including special appearances and performances at figure skating shows, he has found time to work with HomeEquity Bank and help Canadian seniors by spreading the news about CHIP Reverse Mortgages.
